Brewer Exchange Program and BlackDog!
09.11.2009
The Stone Brewing and BrewDog brewer exchange is now over, we first told you about here: http://www.brewdog.com/blog-article.php?id=185

Stewart Bowman (our Head Brewer) is on his way back to Scotland and Jeremy (Stone’s Brew-House Supervisor) is now on his way back to San Diego via Edinburgh and London. Jeremy had a blast at BrewDog and really enjoyed getting hands on in all aspects of our production. We assume things went well from Stewart but he has been so busy (working of course!) that we have barely heard a peep from him. The brewery team also benefited from a 2 week rest from his ‘sacrifice a baby goat in the mash-tun’ rock music!
It was an awesome experience for us having Jeremy here. He is very experienced and talented brewery who has been with Stone throughout their expansion and his experience, input and expertise provided key insights which we will be implementing into our system to further improve beer quality. Our younger brewers were also a little star-struck and he answered a hell of a lot of questions over the 14 days.
We also thought it would be great if Jeremy brewed his own beer while he was here, with Jeremy deciding everything right down to the name! The result a special 20HL batch of BlackDog, a 5.5% dark wheat stout with Columbus, Simcoe and Chinook and of course plenty of dry hopping action. The beer will be available in cask and there will be a handful of bottles available on the website in a few weeks. The beer is just about finished fermenting and is already tasting amazing. We are going to send a keg over to Southern California which will hopefully end up at the Stone Bistro where Jeremy can let his team mates taste the beer he designed and brewed in Scotland.

In between brewing, bottling and hanging out at the brewery Jeremy also did a Stone tasting at Aberdeen, visited a few distilleries and had a tour round a fishing boat. We sent him on his way with a beer dinner at Martin’s house and bestowed the ultimate honour upon him; he became an honorary BrewDog! The dinner at Martin’s was great, Bracken even cooked a Paradox & chocolate cake and there were loads of great beers.

Jeremy has also been helping us on a top secret project for a very exciting new beer (but we can’t tell you too much about this one yet). Suffice to say this little project has been an experience Jeremy is not going to forget for a long, long time.
Hopefully we will have another Stone Brewing and BrewDog exchange next year. Bracken is very keen on going to South California but unfortunately Stone do not seem to have a suitable substitute hound and I am still trying to convince Greg of the merits of a CEO exchange. Maybe another brewer exchange is on the cards, I think swapping Graeme for Mr Mitch Steele would be a pretty good deal for everyone.......

Thanks for everything while you were here Jeremy – you are a brewing star!
