BrewDog Dinner Part 4 Dogma

BrewDog Dinner Part 4 Dogma

A guest blog by Mark Dredge, http://pencilandspoon.blogspot.com

Speedball is Dogma and Dogma is Speedball. The banned beer finally makes its long awaited comeback.

Dogma is an innovative, enigmatic ale brewed with gurana, Californian poppy and kola nut all blended together with Scottish heather honey. A conspiracy of transcontinental ingredients infused with some devastatingly BrewDog imaginative thinking.

In newest instalment of his BrewDog Dinner Series, Mark Dredge not only pairs Dogma with food but gives you a lesson in the art of seduction:

Brace yourselves beer fans this is a fun one. A quick disclaimer first: if you are from the Portman Group then skip this bit, some of my suggestions may/will offend you.

So, what do you serve with a beer that is brewed with guarana and kola nut to lift you up, and Californian poppy to calm you down? To me it's obvious: the spiciest chili you can handle. Hot chili drives your body wild, raising your heart rate and metabolic rate, getting you excited with a big rush of endorphins (the brain compensates for the pain of chili heat by releasing endorphins and giving you pleasure). Add Speedball and you get something pretty awesome. As a combo it works too; the sweet, toasty, spicy malt and the honey in the beer are great with the heat and there's just enough hops to freshen your palate. Another super thing to do is make a Speedball BBQ sauce for ribs with loads of chili in - it's incredibly good. Try the beer with hot dogs or burgers too, especially if you add the BBQ sauce to it. And creamy cheese and Dogma is a winner too.

The Dogma Dinner for Two

I would also like to suggest something different. This one's for the lovers out there, it's a recipe for romantic success: the Dogma Dinner for Two (or more if you are lucky/energetic enough). We all know that booze gets us going in many ways; it makes us more talkative, more confident, more attractive. Add the guarana and you become more intelligent and charming and have more physical and mental stamina, while the kola nut stimulates you to near-euphoric happiness, making you funnier. Then there's the Californian poppy, with its mild sedative qualities, and this makes you more sensitive and romantic. The combined effect of all of these active ingredients is that you will become a better lover.

Here's the plan: light some candles and pour yourself and your date a glass of chilled Dogma. Relax, sit down, drink and talk, then serve up oysters and maybe prawns or scallops (Dogma and fish is good). Then open another beer and bring out a platter of asparagus wrapped in parma ham with figs (earthy and meaty and sweet = great with the beer).

Segue into sweetness, offer her a banana. She may prefer strawberries which is no problem because they are Dogma friendly.

As the romance is about to peak and you finish off another beer, you need to step it up a level and bring out the big gun: chocolate. Tonight is not just about the Dogma so go into your BrewDog collection and grab a RipTide. Pour it, whisper sweet-nothings (speak softly, aurally pleasure your woman) about how the aromas of chocolate and coffee are driving you wild (the smell of the beer will also drive her wild as it mixes with your manly pheromones to create an extraordinary atmosphere for her), say how the mouthfeel is luscious and silky. Serve the RipTide with more strawberries or maybe a chocolate fondue (if the banana was refused earlier then use it here). Or, the ultimate: a gooey chocolate pudding. This will melt you date's heart and act as all the essential foreplay that's needed. Oh what a night!

This beer is not cool. You may think it is, but that is just a beautiful lie fabricated by clowns and gypsies.

  • The Gollam/BrewDog/Portman picture is genius. A sliding scale from good to evil, which end you start at is subjective. Glad to see Speedball is back!

  • How fitting that Speedball should “arise” again over the Easter weekend...Nessa was quite a fan of the Speedball so we’ve ordered ourselves the Portman Special. Eat it Gollum!!
