BrewDog Loves Art

BrewDog Loves Art

BrewDog at Dundee Contemporary Arts

by Johanna Basford

Whether it’s a 20ft graffiti shark, a beardy tattooed brewer or an inky hand printed label, BrewDog loves art. Over the years I’ve drawn a plethora of special edition labels for these hoppy art connoisseurs from the Sunk Punk Nonopus (9 legs, not 8 - deliberately), Battle Owl and the gargoyle inspired Bashah Reserve.

As an illustrator, creating artwork for BrewDog is a pretty sweet gig. The corporates can be a bit tight laced with the old brand guidelines and legalities – with BrewDog I know I just need to chuck in a grenade wielding owl or a shark or 2 and we’re onto a winner.

My first solo exhibition, Wonderlands opens at Dundee Contemporary Arts this week and I’m super delighted to have the art loving scamps at BrewDog sponsor the night. The show opens Friday 3rd May at 7pm and we’re marking the occasion with one of my favourite BrewDog beers with a rather special one-off label featuring Posca Pup (named after the pens that I tattooed him with!) Also making a star appearance will be Dead Pony Club in cans. Yip, canned dead pony. Damien Hirst, eat your heart out.

The Jute Bar downstairs will be serving Jack Hammer, Punk Monk and Fake Lager all on tap – a super cool little line-up to compliment the art.

So if you find yourself in Dundee this Friday evening, why not pop along to the DCA for a spot of art and beer. It’s like cheese and wine, just way cooler.

Wonderlands runs till Sunday 7th July.

Johanna.
