Help Name BrewDog's New Pale Ale!

Help Name BrewDog

We decided it was time to brew a slightly lower ABV beer with our favourite American hops giving you a thirst quenching on tap in all our bars, just in time for the Summer! The new 3.8% Pale Ale is brewed with a solid malt base, moderate bitterness and masses of late hops and dry hops, specifically Citra, Simcoe and HBC. All this makes it ideal for drinking by the pint, or even by the keg. At lunchtime.

The intention is also to bottle this hoppy little beer and consequently it needs a name. Between building new breweries and planning our rock ‘n roll AGM we have found it tough to find the time to name our latest creation and who better to name it than the people who will drink it.

We have a shortlist of names, simply vote above for your favourite by selecting your favourite name from the list above.

Brit Pop - the little offspring of Hardcore and Punk. A pale ale for Common people who live in country houses.

Pale Ale - simple and classic for our most stripped back brew

Fake Fix - instant fix for hop heads and craft beer junkies alike.

38 Automatic - not just because it is 3.8%. Automatic pale ale for the people.

Heist - not really sure why.

Death Head Pony Club - even less sure why. But I like it.

3.8 Special would be a good play on the old .38 Special, plus links in with the 3.8% ABV

38 automatic from above. As it's for a session, Hows about some light punk with a John Peel Session. I nominate the name ""John Peel" or one of the bands from the JP sessions in'77 like "Generation X"
Fred_42 24.04.2012 @ 1:32pm
Call it SUBTLETY, because that is what is in comparison to its more powerful siblings, and being subtle is of course as far off your DNA as one could possibly aim for.
Pete Howard, Nottm 24.04.2012 @ 1:16pm
About time you did a decent session beer, as I've not seen Trashy Blonde for ages. How about "Not JHB", as it is too weak to be "Not Bishops Farewell"
Carl P 24.04.2012 @ 1:14am
Well.. in keeping with the light alcohol, light brits in the sun in summer (spot us a mile off!), the fact that it will satiate all who taste but to keep up the canine tradition .. I would go for the name of PAL(E)SATION !! Off centred but in the bullseye!
Chris P 23.04.2012 @ 7:06pm
Brit Pop no contest!!!
Denisgalvao 23.04.2012 @ 5:06pm

I Like RU18?, good one. What about "Training Wheel PA", Beer for Kids.Heist is to much like Edge, which was weak and sucked.
Nicola M 23.04.2012 @ 11:56am
Death Head Pony Club is the most appealing, but I think maybe it should be kept for something stronger, which packs a bigger punch. How about instead just Pony Pale Ale or Pale Ale Pony? Out of the other suggestions, I like the sound of Heist.x

Death Head Pony Club sounds too much like the band New Young Pony Club. Apart from that, it's also a crap name.
Bracken's Bitches 22.04.2012 @ 8:21pm
How about "3.8% Pale Ale brewed with a solid malt base, moderate bitterness and masses of late hops and dry hops, specifically Citra, Simcoe and HBC"or "3.8 % Pale Ale" for short
Smith & Wesson 22.04.2012 @ 8:11pm
.38 Special - Snubnose for short.
Homebrew Swede 22.04.2012 @ 5:51pm

Ian G 21.04.2012 @ 3:11pm

Jonas Tunander 21.04.2012 @ 2:43pm
Death Head Pony Club for sure!
sonicated 21.04.2012 @ 2:43pm
I do like Brit Pop but people will say you're targeting kids because of the word "pop" and that'll piss me off. Death Head Pony Club should be a name for a really complex beer you don't order every day.I'd be simple on this one, Pale Ale.
Auldbreck 21.04.2012 @ 2:36pm
Only 3.8%? How about the Limp Wrist. Of course no one would order it so maybe not. :-)
Dean fielding 21.04.2012 @ 2:36pm
'ever dance with the devil in the pale moonlight?'
Ed 21.04.2012 @ 2:32pm
You do know that .38 automatic is pretty much meaningless. Rounds for automatic and semi automatic pistols that are .38 caliber are generally called .38 ACP. 3.8 special would have been a better choice, but at least there are no childish references to nazis in any of the names :P
fim54 21.04.2012 @ 2:32pm
Lobster face - for all those pasty folks sitting in the sun drinking beer who inevitably end up with sun burn
Lauwey 21.04.2012 @ 2:27pm
Why not something with vampire theme (fitting a PALE ale)
cinulph 21.04.2012 @ 2:24pm
38 automatic or Brit Pup!!
MarcS 21.04.2012 @ 2:17pm
Pale Bastard Pup, since it's the out-of-wedlock offspring of Hardcore and Punk
mikecox 21.04.2012 @ 2:17pm
looking at other comments you could combine the pup idea with Britpop'Brit pup'
sogden 21.04.2012 @ 2:16pm
If only you brewed it in a bucket, then it could be Pail Ale
Internet 21.04.2012 @ 2:15pm
You should consider dropping the ABV to 3.5% so we Swedes can buy it at our local grocery store or gas station instead of the Systembolag/monopoly. Pretty please?
mikecox 21.04.2012 @ 2:14pm
How about: HOPS SAVE THE QUEEN But if not I like Britpop and 38 Automatic
Peter J 21.04.2012 @ 2:13pm
Is it too late to suggest 38 Special?
Zachary 21.04.2012 @ 2:12pm
Maybe a different name for each bar relating to boring, overrated by camra, local ales? In Nottingham it could be Beyond the (Harvest) Pale.

Jo 21.04.2012 @ 1:55pm
Peely Wally sounds cool, though have voted for 38 Automatic too.Or how about "A Wee bitty Wabbit"
Robert F 21.04.2012 @ 1:55pm
Scratch that, call it the "Pale Ale Pup" - due to its lower alcohol percentage and pup being the younger form of dog. Then release a series of lower alcohol beers and call it the "Brewdog Litter".
cleverbasterd 21.04.2012 @ 1:54pm
when and where the results of this poll?
A bit young to be here... 21.04.2012 @ 1:50pm
Since BrewDog is a proud Northeastern company, why not give it a name that reflects the dialect.I think that "Peely Wally" sounds good
Robert F 21.04.2012 @ 1:49pm
I also like Anemic Ale. For the bottle design, you should do a Brewdog's take on the Moray cup graphic - They were always drinking beer anyway.
Mimz 21.04.2012 @ 1:48pm
At some point you need to add some sleaze into your name selection! ;)
Lewis Wilson 21.04.2012 @ 1:48pm
I think it should be called Anemic Ale. But from the list above probably Death Head Pony Club just because it's not relevant.
