Pilot Brew Competition; The teams (part 2)

In the second instalment of our behind-the-scenes pilot brew competition blogs, we meet some of our battling duos brewing up a storm! Read what four of our other pairs had to say right here, and check out some of their competition below!

TEAM: Joe (bars) & Ste (brewer)
LOCATION: Ellon
WHO'S THE BREWER: Ste!
INITIAL IDEAS: J: "Something delightfully sour, something dark and different and some madcap things involving meat based granules…!"
WHAT WILL ROCK: "Tasting the brew :D"
WHAT MIGHT SUCK:  "Having to wait to taste our brew :( "
THE ONES TO WATCH: "Always gotta watch Ziegler (2013's winner) but Rona & Franz seem confident now they have agreed a chilli to beer ratio…"

TEAM: Franz (brewer) & Rona (HR)
LOCATION: Ellon
WHO'S THE BREWER: Franz
INITIAL IDEAS: R: "It’s got a bit weird. AB:08 was a heavy influence at one point, but we’ve managed to rein it in a little bit. Let’s just say Mexico is going to be a big influence..."
WHAT WILL ROCK: "Getting to try it at the end!"
WHAT MIGHT SUCK: R: "Franz is going to try to sneak chillis into the beer at every possible opportunity, and I’m going to have to stop him. When Franz is unhappy about something he has a tendency to get a bit bitey, so I might have to source some kind of body armour."
THE ONES TO WATCH: "There are so many incredible beery minds in this, I honestly think it’s going to be a super close competition. I’m keeping a close eye on Ziegler and Heather, both of them are incredibly creative when it comes to beer, and with Ziegler being the defending champion he’s definitely going to go all out."

TEAM: Matt & Jack (both bars)
LOCATION: Cardiff
WHO'S THE BREWER: M: "We both homebrew but Jack is the real superstar and has done the majority of the recipe formulation on this one while I'm going to be organising the kit and brew day"
INITIAL IDEAS: "I really really wanted to do an imperial pilsner but in the end we went in a completely different direction….watch this space!"
WHAT WILL ROCK: "If we told you that, we'd be giving the game away!"
WHAT MIGHT SUCK: "Bottling. Last homebrew I had a nasty overfill, beer went in my eyes, I knocked out the tap off the bottling bucket and had to blindly replace it while beer was gushing out onto the kitchen floor. My girlfriend then walked in to find a half-blind man-child sitting in a puddle of beer and feeling very sorry for himself."
THE ONES TO WATCH: "With some of the bar division getting involved this year, I reckon we might have a few surprises in our midst."

TEAM: Rob (marketing) & Starky (brewer)
LOCATION: Ellon
WHO'S THE BREWER: Starky
INITIAL IDEAS: S: "We've toyed with a few but front-runners are a blonde milk stout with yellow raspberries, a milk stout with oats, wheat and cherries or a rye porter with blood orange 'n' stuff in it."
WHAT WILL ROCK: "Drinking beer while brewing. Then once it’s finished, drinking the beer we  brewed."
WHAT MIGHT SUCK: "Hmm... cleaning, mashing, boiling, racking, cleaning again."
THE ONES TO WATCH: "Gemma!"

We'll be checking in with our teams in October to see how they're getting on as the deadline approaches! All brews will be submitted by early November and a winner will be announced before the end of the year.

To all our teams, good luck!
