The Front Lines of the Revolution Part II

It is hard to imagine a place more estranged from the craft beer revolution than Singapore. Dominated by big brand sponsorships and monolithic lagers, we delved under the skin of this decadent island city to discover that the local beer revolution is well under way.

There are a select few making it their mission to introduce outstanding craft beers to Singapore. From a jam packed local food court in the heart of China Town- where the well-known Beer Uncle serves deliciously chilled Punk IPA, Dead Pony Club and 5am Saint- to trendy bars in the city center and Singapore's first craft beer bottle shop in the heartlands; BrewDog are helping quench the thirst of the craft beer curious.

Leading the charge is the Old Empire Gastropub. With Punk and 5am on tap and a prolific selection of bottles, they often host BrewDog beer dinners and are the well-armed front lines of the beer revolution in South East Asia. Speaking to Karam, who runs the bar with his mate Colin,
“At Old Empire we’ve gone out of our way to create a sanctuary of Craft beer here in Singapore. We are one of the only places in the country to have BrewDog on tap and have a bottled beer selection which includes limited and seasonal release beers from across the globe. We try and encompass all styles of beer and pick what we think are the best from each region for our menu.”

At the end of an amazing five course BrewDog dinner- where I got to meet some of our brilliant Singaporean fans and stockists- I couldn't help but duck behind the bar to pop open one last bottle of Paradox for our chefs. They'd managed to whip up a brilliant menu which perfectly complimented some of my own BrewDog favourites, including Dog A and Abstrakt AB:11.
