Imperial Brown Ale IPA 35%
Session Brown Ale 28%
Here is how MashTag Works:
Every day this week we will post a blog at 12 noon offering you 3 options for various elements of the brew. You cast your votes on twitter, on facebook or on our blog.
Monday - Beer Style - decided as Brown Ale.
Tuesday - Malt Bill & ABV - decided as American Brown Ale
Wednesday - Hops & IBU
Thursday - Special Twist (barrel aged? Dry hopped? Belgian yeast? Addition of a pasturised mouse?)
Friday - Name
Votes need for the Hops need to be cast by 1800 GMT. Simcoe will count the votes on his abacus and announce them the following day when we give you the next round of options. So today, you guys need to vote on the hops we are going to use in the American Brown Ale.
The malt bill for the 7.5% beer we have chosen is based on Caramalt, Amber Malt, Roasted Barley and Pale Malt. This will give us a malty and robust backbone with a caramel, nutty and toasty flavour.
Today we will choose the specific hops and also the bitterness of the final beer. the higher the IBU number, the higher the bitterness.
Today's choices are:
English Hops - 55 IBU - East Kent Goldings and Bramling Cross
Moderate bitterness and a huge amount of flavour and aroma hops. The spiced autumnal fruit, berries and earthy notes of these hops should really compliment the malt base of this beer style.
American Hops - 75 IBU - Columbus, Amarillo, Centennial
The purist's choice. High bitterness provided by the tough Columbus hop before a satisfying explosion of citrus, and piney notes gush across your pallet from the Amarillo and Centennial hops.
New Zealand Hops - 95 IBU - Pacific Gem, Motueka, Nelson Sauvin
A high bitterness wild card. The high alpha of the Pacific Gem will provide an aggressive bite whilst the Motueka and Nelson hops will impact a tropical fruit twist.
Remember votes close at 1800 GMT today, let us know what you want the hops and IBU to be and tomorrow we will announce the winner and give you options for the signature twist.
Happy voting scamps!
