One of the highlights of our year is nearly upon us. The 2018 BrewDog Beer Geek Awards Ceremony is set to take place at BrewDog Shoreditch on Tuesday 31st July. Kicking off at 6:30pm the event is a Live Final with two awards being decided on stage before the presentation of the trophies for all categories. Our judging panel will then reconvene to select Europe’s Biggest Beer Geek. It’s going to be quite the evening.

And if you want to join us you can pick up your tickets right here!

On the night as well as getting a free beer on us, your ticket means you can watch the prizes being decided and chat to the industry experts who we have invited to be on our Beer Geek Awards Judging Panel. So let’s meet them!

Pete Brown

Pete is the most successful beer writer of his generation, having been named Beer Writer of the Year on three different occasions over the last decade. His books are must-read additions to any beer (and cider) library and his twin themes of pubs and hops have made him a household name in brewing circles. His humour and objectivity are second to none and we are psyched that he is returning to our Beer Geek Awards Panel!

Jonny Garrett

Five years ago Jonny co-founded the Craft Beer Channel, which has gone on to become one of the world’s biggest online networks devoted to beer. Over 2 million YouTube views later Johnny spends his time filming in breweries, hosting talks and tastings and generally living the dream by flying to all corners of the globe and discovering fantastic beer about which to spread the word.

Claire Bullen

From her base in London, Claire is forging a career as the top writer on beer and food in the country at the moment. In filing articles for Good Beer Hunting and working as a food editor for Hop Burns & Black she captures the true majesty of pairing beer with food – and her other work on breweries and the people who work in them is quite simply as good as it gets.

Adrian Tierney-Jones

ATJ is the reigning Beer Writer of the Year, having wrested the title from Pete Brown thanks to his amazing and evocative book The Seven Moods of Craft Beer. He is an expert taster and talker on the subject and from his long career as a music writer is able to approach our industry with a truly unique viewpoint. It’s great to have him join our panel of Head Geeks!

Lena Olaussen

Lena embodies true passion and enthusiasm for craft beer, as evidenced by her winning the title of World’s Biggest Beer Geek in last year’s awards. Her amazing Instagram account blew us away and she deservedly scooped the biggest prize for opening eyes to what craft beer can look like and how it should taste. We had to invite her to be a part of this year’s panel!

James Watt

Our final judge should need no introduction to those reading, our Captain and co-founder James established BrewDog in a Fraserburgh lock-up with his friend Martin Dickie back in 2007 (as if you didn’t know that already). Awarded Great British Entrepreneur of the Year in 2014, James is one of only a handful of Master Cicerones in the world.

James, Lena, Adrian, Claire, Jonny and Pete will be determining not just who triumphs out of the seven Beer Geek Awards categories but will then reconvene to decide the big one – Europe’s Biggest Beer Geek! This lucky person will then go up against the winner of the American version of the Live Final (taking place on the same night in Columbus) to determine the ultimate accolade – World’s Biggest Beer Geek 2018.

If you would like to see all of this taking place then you can grab your ticket to the Beer Geek Awards Live Final here for only £6 (including a free beer). Beer Geeks. Assemble!

I enjoyed last years one at Clerkenwell. If I can make it down I'll head along

A fine looking group of people too. Hopefully I'll be there for the tasting award (I am in the final, right?) ;)
