BrewDog Edinburgh to officially open on 22nd March

This Tuesday, the 22nd March at 7pm we will officially open the doors to our new craft beer bar in Edinburgh , following the growing success of our debut bar, BrewDog Aberdeen, which opened last year. The location of the new venue was crowd-sourced by craft beer fans following an appeal on the BrewDog website for enthusiasts to help find potential locations in their home towns.

We see BrewDog Edinburgh adding to the city’s already burgeoning craft beer scene and making Edinburgh one of the best craft beer destinations in Europe. Unlike the corporate, mainstream giants in the beer world, our customers play a direct role in the development and success of our business. They have helped create new beers, chosen the destination of our new bar and even had the opportunity to buy shares in the company. BrewDog Edinburgh is as much an achievement of the craft beer revolution as it is of BrewDog.

BrewDog Edinburgh is situated at 143, Cowgate, on the premises of a disused ‘Chasers’ bar. The building has been stripped out and transformed into an industrial, utilitarian space, with a reclaimed brick bar that puts the beer at the centre of attention. All the furniture and fittings are reclaimed and 2nd had, our sofas came form a local charity shop. As well as stocking BrewDog beers, the new bar showcases a myriad of diverse and often rare beers from all over the globe, with 14 draught taps and a menu containing hundreds of bottled beers.

Our mission is to make people as passionate about beer as we are and our success with BrewDog Aberdeen proves there is a growing revolt against not only dreary, mass-produced mainstream lagers, but also the faceless and mundane bars that peddle them. People are looking for more than the fizzy, yellow lagers on offer in most pubs and BrewDog Edinburgh will establish another stronghold for the craft beer revolution that is about to sweep the nation. We intend to open 3 more bars in 2011, watch this space.

The launch event on the 22nd is a free event. Just rock up to find out what BrewDog Edinburgh is all about. You will have to taste draft BrewDog beers, sample free pizzas and taste some spectacular guest kegged beers ( Lost Abbey Angel’s Share and Stone Imperial Russian Stout on tap anyone?).

The UK Beer Scene is sick.

And we are the fucking doctor.

Oh, and we have Pop up Pirate.

My punk band DIDDUMS were going to be playing at the opening night, which would have been brilliant but no-one got back to me after umpteen emails. A bit disappointing really. But i'll still pop over for a visit when it's up and running.. Good luck!Gary

Great news... I'm in Edinburgh for my 40th in October - what a way to celebrate!
BeerHawk 23rd March, 2011 9:22am
Gutted that I could not make it last night but will make the trip up there soon! Congratulations to Brewdog and hope all went well - would love to see some pics of the opening.

I hate to be negative but that raspberry (?) abomination that was on tap last night was AWFUL! Does anyone know what was responsible for its awful smell? Blergh.I am also offended that I was accused by a member of staff of being drunk because I returned to the bar with my 'Nelson' to confirm that it was really the beer I ordered. I had ordered a Nelson previously that night and the 2 beers were clearly not the same beer (the 2nd one being much more hoppy). Fair enough, mistakes happen and miss-pours happen but don't insult my beer judgement!!!That aside, I will definitely go back for the AWESOME non-Brewdog bottled beer list and to visit the lovely manager Kerry :)

Tony. You need to read the Blog post published on the 1st of March and the coments on it. You won't be getting HANDPUMPED beer in a Brewdog bar EVER. Get over it. If you don't like your Brewdog out of a keg thats fine, more room at the bar for those of us who do.

I'm going to a brewdog beer party in York in 2 weeks, where all the beers are hand pulled.NO beer, however well brewed, is at its best in a keg. So GET SOME HANDPUMPS and stop trying to be different for the sake of it.

That Edinburgh Evening News article is great publicity for the bar opening. I suggest all brewdog fans go and post rational responses to the comments from fervent neoprohobitionists who have nothing better to do with their time than post on online news articles...most sane poeple spend their evenings down the pub

Unfortunately can't make it as I'm off to see Doug Stanhope tonight...however, I did make my first trip to BrewDog Aberdeen last weekend - really impressed. Second to none bottle selection, immaculately served drafts, friendly and enthusiastic staff and I dug the reclaimed furnishings. Even a cold hearted cynic like myself recognises that BrewDog are doing a Good Thing here. I just need a BrewDog Glasgow now...

Top drawer quote in that article, "Brewdog is for life, not just for discounts", brilliant! Though I'm sure some Aberdonians would disagree with you

Good luck with the opening tonight guys. Can't be there, unfortunately - but will be in tomorrow night for the first of many, many visits!PSDisappointed to see the usual spurious, sensational "excessive drinking" line trotted out in the Edinburgh Evening News today in an article about the opening:http://edinburghnews.scotsman.com/topstories/Beer-tattoo-discount-was-enough.6738313.jp

Is it Punk Monk that I can see on tap in the first photo? If it is, is that the same Punk Monk from Murray's in New South Wales, Australia?

Matthew Fry 21st March, 2011 2:59pm
Brew Dog Chester. Niche market, high end socio-economic demographic crying out for avant-gard city centre pub.
Ed Beech 21st March, 2011 10:18am
How about BrewDog Manchester? I think the beer scene here needs an injection of life into. You could be just the guys to do it.
neil, eatingisntcheating.blogspot.com 21st March, 2011 9:40am
any chance of a branch in Leeds? There's a huge craft beer scene here, and whilst places like North bar (and their other bars in outer leeds), Arcadia, Veritas and Mr Foley's are Top Notch establishments there's always room for a new kid on the block.Message me if you want advice on locations. I studied here for three years then have lived here for a further 4. It's an amazing city.
