Launch Events this week for Avery, Brown, Dredge!
Illustrious beer bloggers Zak Avery, Pete Brown and Mark Dredge brew special-edition pilsner with BrewDog
Bloggers turn brewers with new BrewDog beer, Avery Brown Dredge.
Three of the United Kingdom’s most influential beer bloggers, Zak Avery, Pete Brown and Mark Dredge have turned from critics to craft brewers, launching their very own beer brewed with Scotland’s largest independent brewery, BrewDog. The eponymous Avery Brown Dredge beer is a 7.5% ABV imperial pilsner and was brewed in January this year when the three writers untied to craft ‘the perfect beer’ at BrewDog’s microbrewery in Fraserburgh, Aberdeen.
James Watt, co-founder of BrewDog commented:
“From our perspective, it was an honour to host the very finest beer writers this side of the Atlantic, three rock stars of the craft brewing movement, at our brewery. Great craft beer is about passion and creativity and it was great to see both in full flow as the guys mucked in to brew Avery Brown Dredge and I’m confident the beer will be regarded as a totem for the craft beer revolution.”
The imperial pilsner was brewed using purely natural ingredients: lager malt, malted wheat, Saaz hops and water. Extensively dry hopped and lagered since January, the beer is now ready to drink and will be launched simultaneously by the three writers at their respective local craft beer havens: North Bar in Leeds, The Jolly Butcher in Stoke Newington, London and The Rake in Borough Market, London. The launch events will all take place at 7.30pm on Thursday, March 31.
From BrewDog, James will be with Pete at the Jolly Butcher, Tom will be at the White Horse and Josie will be at North Bar.
The limited-edition beer will be made available to buy in those bars and in carefully selected craft beer outlets nationwide, as well as the BrewDog.com online shop on Saturday. All three bloggers will be documenting the creation of Avery Brown Dredge at their respective websites, from the brewing process to their nerves about public reception.
One of the brewers, Zak Avery commented:
“Avery Brown Dredge is a homage to beers that we like, brewers that have made a difference to our lives and to our writing, and beer-making traditions that need first to be worshipped and then smashed to pieces.”
Pete Brown, dubbed ‘the beer drinker’s Bill Bryson’ by The Times, commented:
"It was a fantastic experience getting on the inside of Brew Dog and seeing just how serious, dedicated and above all incredibly busy they are. And the beer we made is just incredible - really lovely, and quite different from the omnipresent Citra beers that are everywhere you look. Now it’s for the public to tell us what they think."
A self-confessed fan of BrewDog beers, Mark Dredge added:
“Brewing our own beer has given me a new respect and perspective on what BrewDog do and what they’ve achieved. Could you start a brewery today and then come back in three yearsand say you will turnover £6.5million+, have a restaurant and three bars, be available around the world, including major UK supermarkets, sending out 8,000,000 bottles of beer a year? It’s awe-inspiring.”
