THE GREAT BREWDOG INTERNATIONAL BAR HUNT

THE GREAT BREWDOG INTERNATIONAL BAR HUNT

So, those New Year’s Resolutions. How are they going? If you’ve reached for the biscuits a couple of times more than you should, or left the trainers yellowing in a cupboard – don’t worry about it. There’s plenty of time remaining in 2015 to get back into the good habits (or if not, buy another pair of trainers in the summer). For promises made at the start of the year to be kept, there needs to be some kind of incentive to keep your spirits up. An incentive, say, like having a BrewDog bar open in your city? Yes, we’re on the hunt for more great locations for our global bars – and if you know of a perfect site in the following areas – let us know! (And besides, helping others in their time if need is also a pretty good resolution to follow).

The 2015 Great International Bar Hunt is now on!

There are many locations that we are keen on (see later) – but as we begin the year, our prime focus is on one specific city and one very cool country. The city is Berlin – we had a number of sites there in mind, stretching back over the last eighteen months, but sadly none have come to fruition. We are still looking for that perfect site for BrewDog Berlin though, and really want to make it happen. We’re open to considering any area in the city, with minimum size being at least 150 square metres. The site must be able to be operated as a bar and we would consider sites large enough to also be a brewpub.

As to the country, well, we think the time is right for BrewDog USA to become a reality, and are really interested in sites on both the west and east coasts of America. For the west coast we are looking for a site that could operate as a brewpub; it would therefore need to be between 6,000-8,000 square feet and be able to obtain a licence for a bar and brewery. For our east coast location, we are looking for somewhere that would be operated as a bar only, and would have a minimum size requirement of 2,000 square feet.

How does that sound? We can’t wait to find the perfect location!

As you may or may not know, we normally launch our international bars with awesome, passionate local partners; for an ideal candidate, we are ideally after the following:-

- Strong local knowledge, on the ground. A solid grasp of the local beer and bar scene, coupled with an understanding of what is current around the city, and a decent awareness for the districts and areas around town.

- Operational experience within hospitality is also very high on our list of priorities, so having run a bar before is pretty handy.

- Lastly, you will need to be mega passionate about craft beer and really want to build a successful business with us!

As long as you tick all of the above and are keen to make this project kick ass, our resident Mr World in charge of all International Bars, Neil Taylor ([email protected]), wants to hear from you! Let him know the locations that fit the bill, and why you would be the perfect partner for BrewDog in that area.

It’s not just those two areas we have in mind, though. The list below features planned or potential international bar openings for 2015 – these are locations where we have a foothold, or a bar that is in the works. However, we are always keen to hear from people on the ground who may have unusual information, or have spotted a fantastic site we can turn into one of our bars. If that’s you – then get in touch with our Neil!

•             Norway

•             Brussels

•             Thailand

•             Hong Kong

•             Singapore

•             Rome

But that’s not all! Aside from Germany and the USA there are many other places around the world where we are keen to open a BrewDog bar. We’re actively looking for local partners in these locations, to provide us with available sites and suggestions of the best places to open. If you know of the ultimate place for a craft beer bar in one of these countries – or anywhere else for that matter (this list is by no means exhaustive) where BrewDog can really shine, then let us know!

•             Netherlands

•             Australia

•             Russia

•             Ireland

•             France

•             New Zealand

•             Canada

•             China

•             Switzerland

•             Austria

•             Greece

•             South Korea

•             Denmark

So what do you think? Where should we open in these countries? As we saw with Helsinki, you never know where a simple suggestion will lead…

Oxford, UK!

There's a terrible and unexpected lack of good hoppy beer - lots of nice pubs only stocking old man beer, but plenty of young people who need to be shown the way.

Rekjavic, Athens and Hong Kong spring to mind

Hi Guys,
Just had some of your awesome craft beers whilst on holiday in Edinburgh.
I reckon you should open a Brewdog Bar in the Perth hills in Kalamunda, Western Australia.
It would fit in perfectly in the cafe strip and with the mountain bike cafe culture !!
Great beers, well done !!
MarcoSoB 20.01.2015 @ 8:41am
Berlin is already booming with craft beer bars / brewpubs. Open one in Düsseldorf instead. Big (alt-)beer scene there but no craft. Plus its close to the dutch border.
shaun 19.01.2015 @ 4:59pm
what happened to Brighton? That was due to open mid-January?

Sydney before Melbourne! Melb is already chock-a-block with quality beer venues.. Syd needs more!

Hamble le Rice, in Hampshire is dying for one of your outstanding bars and with the amount of holiday makers could easily sustain one. So lets do it

Im going out this weekend in search of a place in Raleigh, NC for you.

I see that you dont mention any cities in Africa? Southern Africa Rocks!!
Frans 13.01.2015 @ 7:21am
Why not open one up in The Craft Beer Capital of Africa that also happens to be the most beautiful city in the world....Cape Town - South Africa
Simon 12.01.2015 @ 8:30pm
Still waiting for the bar in Bruxelles.
mapguy 12.01.2015 @ 7:11pm
Atlanta would be a good spot -- theres an up-and-coming local beer scene thats pretty nice with lots of craft beer lovers, a huge metro area around the city (and a lot of those suburbanites do come into town frequently for bars), large, open spaces available for probably cheap rent in several of the hip neighborhoods, and there are excellent beer bars there like the Porter Beer Bar without the beer bar scene being overcrowded already.Failing that though you should put it in NYC where Ill actually be living.
IronHef 12.01.2015 @ 2:20pm
Baltimore, Maryland!! Nice central location between Philly and Washington DC.

Perth, Western Australia - one of the most isolated cities in the world!
nico3280 12.01.2015 @ 5:08am
West coast, somewhere in the Pacific northwest where it would compliment the local beer scene. LA is nice, but Id hate to see it get too exclusive from local celebs. East coast, the former CBGBs just makes sense.

We need a BrewDog bar in Madrid!! Spanish craft beer scene is developing very quickly, and Madrid is the logical next step after opening the one in Barcelona. Dont wait for too long and take advantage of becoming the largest craft beer bar in the capital!

Ill second the beercavalier and suggest toronto given the expanding reach of your beers into our better drinking establishments. There is certainly demand for BrewDog here and a brew pub would fit nicely into our collection of beer-focused bars. As for the US - Portland and Boston ... But Austin would be a good fit, too.
mela713 11.01.2015 @ 2:59pm
Austin, Texas!!!Hey, Im very surprised you havent done any TV episodes in Texas at all and youve done California multiple times. Austin, Dallas, Houston and (finally) San Antonio all have thriving craft beer scenes. But BrewDog Austin would be brilliant. Live Music Capital of the World, huge college town, average of 110 people moving here per day, home of the first co-op brewery and cinema brewery.

Wrocław, Poland would be nice.
Bearzfeet 11.01.2015 @ 1:18pm
Boston, MA, USA or Providence, Rhode Island. USA Boston would definitely draw huge crowds (especially a location in Cambridge or Somerville), and we have over 100 colleges in Greater Boston and an exciting beer scene.Providence RI is badly under served for good bars/brewpubs, and is also a great, lively college town. Added bonus is its close enough to also capture day trippers who come down from Boston, or weekenders from NYC, as well as being a focal point for locals.
Rocío 11.01.2015 @ 1:08pm
Another vote for Madrid! Spanish people love beer and these days craft beer is becoming more popular in our country so this would be an excellent location.
Lenriqel 11.01.2015 @ 12:53pm
Poland! - to be precise Krakow or WroclawPolish craft is growing incredibly fast. From no craft breweries in 2010 to over 500 beer premieres last year. The market is open, and people drink almost everything what appears in tap houses of specialistic shops. Moreover, Your beer has very good status here. I have never in my life heard any bad words about Brewdog. Why Krakow/Wroclaw? Lot of beer events are happening in those cities. Pracownia Piwa and Pinta(two of the most popular polish breweries) have their tap houses in Krakow. More and more people here are intersted in craft. We would be realy honored to have you here.
fkoolen 11.01.2015 @ 12:50pm
Id go for Maastricht in the Netherlands, beautiful old buildings and the international location would fit the BrewDog bill nicely!
Ryan I 11.01.2015 @ 12:44pm
New Orleans, enough said. New Orleans has had a love affair with beer do to the large German and Irish population that live there. Plus there is always something going on and not to mention the food that goes great with beer.

Why dont u try to settle in Poland!? Personally I would recommend Cracow - its congested with tourists from around the world, there are already two polish craft breweries working there, there is huge awareness of craft beer culture, there is like 4 craft beer multitap bar working already and its no over. It would be nice to have you here. Trust me craft beer awareness in Poland is growing faster than light. In about a year, we gain something about 45 new carft beer breweries of different sizes. It is estimated that craft beer share in polish beer market is 10%. Id like to emphasize that polish craft beer revolution started only 3 years ago with the first craft brewery Pinta.
tutu 11.01.2015 @ 12:30pm
You should definitely open a new bar in Istanbul, specifically in Karakoy region. Istanbul is a very trendy destination, visited by lots of tourists every year. There is a good amount of thirsty for quality beer locals as well.
Christophe 11.01.2015 @ 12:29pm
Come in Lausanne Switzerland guys we love craft beer and brewdog. It would be great! Cheers!
BrewingInBelfast 11.01.2015 @ 12:25pm
Belfast would welcome BrewDog with open arms! Several sites are free in whats called the Cathedral Quarter just off the main shopping areas of Royal Avenue and the High Street. Belfast in undergoing something of a Craft Beer Revolution with a couple bars opening up recently dedicated to the lovely stuff, but having been to BrewDogs in Glasgow, Edinburgh and Nottingham, I can tell you that the people of Belfast are ready for you! I can guarantee interesting and prosperous times for BrewDog in Belfast.
adalek 11.01.2015 @ 12:25pm
Think about starting a bar in Warsaw, Poland. With the craft beer revolution that is happening and popularity of your beers in bars here, it would definitely pay off.

We need Brewdog in Montreal, we got considered one of the top 10 beer city in the world recently, having Brewdog here would just be the cherry on top of it. And I would die for a collaboration between you guys and Le Castor or Dieu du Ciel! :D
Steve V 11.01.2015 @ 12:15pm
It would be lovely if a BrewDog bar opened in the Netherlands. Amsterdam is not the best place in my opinion, its too crowded everywhere. And I dont really like the city (though I study there). So I would suggest one of the other three big cities; Utrecht, Rotterdam or The Hague. Utrecht and The Hague could use some more awesome places, Amsterdam and Rotterdam already have more quality sites.

Its gotta be Dublin next. Weve only been asking for years. DublinDublinDublin.
ShanghaiScot 11.01.2015 @ 12:10pm
If you want to open in China, it has to be Shanghai. BrewDog already sold on tap in several bars around the city and in bottles in many others. Get yourself onto Yongkang Road or around the French Concession area of Shanghai.

Why not look at creating the world’s most southern Brew Dog bar in Hobart Tasmania, fast becoming known as Australia’s foodie capital and home to many craft brewery’s including Moo Brew which actually have one of your ‘End of history” beers proudly on display in their bar. Hobart has a proud history in beer with Australia oldest operating brewery (now sadly a globally owned main stream product) located in town but has fast become a boutique beer drinker’s paradise with several brew pups now currently in operation making this indeed the ideal location to launch the Aussie assault on bland commercial beer! When launching a bar in Hobart there is only one location to do it and that’s Sullivans Cove. It is here where Hobart comes to play with everything from large cruise ships stoping throughout summer through to Australia’s largest arts festivals MONA FOMA and DARK MOFO which draws thousands of people to the state each year. The people of Hobart are well aware of PUNK IPA with it now being stocked in most boutique bars and strongly featured at the Tasmanian International Beer festival (another event hosted within Sullivans Cove) but its time they discovered the entire range of amazing beers you have to offer!

Living in Canada...but I doubt youd get one in Calgary or Edmonton (aka where I live)...so Im gonna go with Vancouver in the Gastown area.

Forget about Berlin. Hamburg has an already sizeable and strongly growing Craft Beer industry, with many small-sized breweries and pubs located on-site. A pub near the party district of St.Pauli, e.g. around the Reeperbahn area would mean the first actual Craft Beer-themed pub with, so far, no direct competition.
Rall 08.01.2015 @ 3:53pm
Forget about Lausanne, but Geneva yes. Nice international city and no craft beer Shop and bar.
battlegarden 08.01.2015 @ 3:47pm

Toronto - Canada - youve proven how well your beer does when WVRST bar on King street had you on a tap take over and it was busy. The craft scene in Toronto let alkne Canada is probably one of the most competitive. You would do very well! I spent a lot of time in your Edinbrough bar and thats what Toronto needs. Traffic would be none stop. I tried emailing your Canadian distributor a couple times with no reply about having more Punk IPA on our LCBO store shelves. Toronto would welcome your variety of brews and you guys would love us back! Please consider Toronto! My twitter handle is above and thank you
