Pilot Brew Competition; The teams (part 1)

Pilot Brew Competition; The teams (part 1)

Last month we launched the second annual Pilot Brew Competition at Brew HQ, inviting our teams to apply to take part in a homebrewing competition to potentially unearth some hidden talent within our workforce! Anyone keen was then paired up with someone else in their city, and the final groups have been selected and confirmed! We caught up with just a few of our duos to see what they're psyching up for:

TEAM: Dean (bars) & Lucy (International bars)
LOCATION: London (BrewDog Shepherd's Bush)
WHO'S THE BREWER: Dean has homebrewed for years and completed dozens of brew days at microbreweries too.
INITIAL IDEAS: D: "I've come up with an idea for a style I've not tried before and that we should be able to do with our limited resources. My homebrew kettle blew up a few months ago and I've not replaced it yet, so that'll be interesting!"
WHAT WILL ROCK: "We can't tell you that because it would give too much away...!"
WHAT MIGHT SUCK: "Bottling. I hate bottling."
THE ONES TO WATCH: "I expect big things from Franz and Rona. It would be pretty cool to win though, and be able to get customers to try it, tell them all about it and see what they think."

TEAM: Sienna (bars) & Sarah (marketing)
LOCATION: LONDON!
WHO'S THE BREWER: Si: "Neither of us have really got that much experience. Just a LOT of balls!"
INITIAL IDEAS: Sa "We were originally thinking along the lines of a Bacon & Chocolate "Elvis" Stout, or potentially a Dill & Carraway Kolsh, but we've almost settled on something else…you'll have to wait and see what though!"
WHAT WILL ROCK: "The design stage has proved to be pretty fun so far!"
WHAT MIGHT SUCK: Si: "Cleaning up. MAJOR potential for failure"
THE ONES TO WATCH: Si: "Us."
Sa: "Obvs us. But I've also got my eye on Starky and Rob!"

TEAM: Luke (online shop) & Gareth (sales)
LOCATION: London
WHO'S THE BREWER: Luke (seasoned homebrewer)
INITIAL IDEAS: L: "We are thinking something dark, and probably something spiced"
WHAT WILL ROCK: "Tasting the beer of course!"
WHAT MIGHT SUCK: "Nothing really…although packaging is a bit of a chore"
THE ONES TO WATCH: "Rob & Starky are looking pretty dangerous, but I think Bates & Pat might be a dark horse"

TEAM: Harry (marketing) & Jen (bars)
LOCATION: London
WHO'S THE BREWER: Jen's completed a few micro brews
INITIAL IDEAS: H: "We're yet to decide on anything, but we did toy with some Belgian ideas for starters"
WHAT WILL ROCK: "Potentially someone creating something amazing! I'm looking forward to seeing what everyone else makes. At the end of the day, the winner of this competition is beer."
WHAT MIGHT SUCK: "Failing to make a nice beer and letting Jen down." (EDIT: We're sure that won't be the case!!)
THE ONES TO WATCH: H: "Luke's one to watch because he's shown me some of his recipes on his funny little app he has and they look pretty good. So I think him and Gareth might be strong competition" J: "Dean and Lucy seem to have some pretty mega ideas!"

We'll meet a few more of our teams next week – who do you think is looking strongest so far?
