BREWDOG BEERS FOR 2016

BREWDOG BEERS FOR 2016

You can find out more about investing in BrewDog at www.brewdog.com/equityforpunks

Every year we make a few tweaks to our beery line-up as we look to fine tune our portfolio and also throw some awesome new small batch brews and collaborations into the mix.

2015 saw Born To Die unleashed on the world, Black Eyed King Imp hit cans and our first ever seasonal program launched with Alice Porter, Electric India, Hop Fiction and Candy Kaiser all going down a storm.

We are currently working on a few prototypes as well as dialling in a few really exciting new beers to launch in 2016. Here are some of the things we are currently working on:

Jet Black Heart

Our brewing team and our bars team have been working on this concept for a few months now. Jet Black Heart is a 5.1% milk stout, loaded with oatmeal for an extra lush mouth-feel and nitro dispensed on draft; expect decadent cacao, subtle roastiness, and autumnal fruitiness with a dark seductive edge. Inspired by some of the awesome craft nitro stouts we tried in the US we wanted to put our own spin on the style and also introduce nitro beers to BrewDog bars.

Elvis Juice 2.0

IPAs are loaded with deliciously citrusy flavours, adding citrus fruit to IPAs can make these citrus notes even more pronounced and encapsulating. Since launching the prototype Elvis Juice earlier this year we have been playing around with loads of other citrus IPAs on our pilot plant. We loved our Elvis Juice prototype but we added so much fruit juice we really lowered the pH of the beer giving it a sour edge, which was cool, but not quite what we were looking for.

Since then we have been experimenting with adding peel, less juice and also working to develop a way to extract huge grapefruit flavour without radically altering the beer’s pH. A 6.5% brand new Elvis Juice will be the result and will look to launch in January as part of our year round amplified series.

The 2015 Prototype Challenge

As always, we will be launching our 2015 prototypes in late November/early December. This year the 4 will be:

· Milk & Oatmeal Stout – discussed above

· India Session Pale Lager – once you think about this, it kinda makes sense. We promise.

· A Hoppy Brown Ale – maximum hops and maximum malt in a traditionally pedestrian style.

· Mid Strength Black IPA – a 5.2% hopped up black beast of a beer.

Hammer Heads

Jack Hammer has been a revelation for us since we launched it after it stormed to success in our 2013 prototype challenge. This year we will release a few small batch spins on our West Coast IPA. These will include:

Monk Hammer: Jack Hammer fermented with Belgian Yeast

Black Hammer: Black IPA version of Jack Hammer

Scotch Bonnet Hammer: Chilli-infused Jack Hammer

Brett Hammer: Brettanomyces-fermented Jack Hammer

XXXX Hammer: Your suggestions appreciated!

The Hammer Head beers will be one off releases and will be in cans.

Ace of Hops

Ace of Simcoe/Ace of Nelson/Ace of Mosaic etc. For 2016 we are intending tweaking the IPA is Dead series and re-launching it as the Ace of Hops series. These will be four single hopped session IPAs at 4.5% released over the course of the year. We feel the session IPA strength will be a great base to really showcase the hops and think that it will be better to release them over the course of 2016 than altogether.

Collaborations

We currently have collaborations with both Deschutes (an imperial porter) and Ballast Point (Mezcal-inspired strong ale) aging in oak. We also have the amazing J Wakefield over in January to help us put a Scottish twist on a Florida Berliner Weisse. We are also planning a suitably epic coffee and tobacco-inspired beer with our friends at Beavertown too. Plus loads more!

Small Batch

Small batch is dedicated to one off eclectic brews where we commission an amazing artist to produce a custom piece of artwork for the packaging. 2015 small batch highlights included Hinterland, an imperial milk, chocolate, coffee and vanilla stout with a label by Johanna Basford and Albino Squid Assassin with the can designed by Joe Wilson. 2016 small batch beers will include Self Assembly Pope and Neon Overlord. The details on the beers are still top secret (for now) but the Self Assembly Pope label was designed by Florian Schommer and will look something like the above!

Lager

This. Is. Lager. is currently undergoing a gentle revolution. We are experimenting with different malts and different yeast strains to help us make the beer even better. We are also playing with increasing the hop character and adding a noble dry hop. Once the fine tuning has been completed we will re-launch our lager as Kingpin.

We will of course also launch a few Born To Die & Paradox releases over the course of 2016 too!

Here is a little look at our proposed 2016 Range:

Headliners:

Punk IPA

Dead Pony Club

5am Saint

Kingpin – our newly revamped lager

Plus the winner of our 2015 prototype challenge

Tuned:

Vagabond Pale Ale

Nanny State

Amplified:

Jack Hammer

Elvis Juice

Cocoa Psycho

Hardcore IPA

Tokyo*

Seasonals:

TBD

These plans are all just in draft format for now. We would love to hear your thoughts on our plans as well as other changes you would like to see to the range and other beers you would like to see us brew! Let us know in the comments below your take on our beery plans for 2016!

P.S- Dogma and electric India should become headliners
Alexander 16.11.2015 @ 5:37pm
Personally i just don't find Jack Hammer all that hoppy nor bitter, I have had other Brewdog beers that give a better example of hops. I want to be picked in the made by hops not a kiss on the lips. Also can't wait for the return of Alice, such a perfect beer, the highest quality craftsmanship.

Hammer Head Idea:

Yak Hammer: A hopped-up milk IPA made with yak’s milk
G 05.11.2015 @ 2:07pm
Could not be happier with this. Highlights:

• Elvis Juice made permanent – This was my favourite prototype of 2015.
• Ballast Point collab – I discovered BP this year at the AGM. Love their stuff.
• Mid-level black IPA – My most-loved beer style, but I wasn’t a fan of Libertine.
• Black IPA version of Jack Hammer – So excited I think a bit of wee just came out!

"Jorg Albertz, The Hammer" - Knocks out Paul Lambert's teeth, gets up and scores the penalty :)
Lot of love for Libertine, but frankly Zeitgeist is far superior. More of it please.
JMK 26.10.2015 @ 6:20pm
Restorative was my beer of 2015, please bring it back as a one off at least.
Robbie90 26.10.2015 @ 1:19pm

How about Sledge Hammer? A Peter Gabriel inspired session IPA that knocks you out with it's hoppiness.
The real comptroller 24.10.2015 @ 8:04am
Black Eyed King Imp, Clown King, Kingpin. Please just be careful with that word, fellas.
Mike 23.10.2015 @ 1:19pm
Libertine was the first the Black IPA I ever had, love the style because of this brew, be such a shame to see it go
Craig Bennet 22.10.2015 @ 7:56pm
What about Jeffrey Dhammer? Jackhammer infused with Rohypnol and human flesh.
Lizard Bride definitely needs to be regular. Thought there would be some sours in there too?
dp 22.10.2015 @ 7:43pm
Need libertine please!
battlegarden 22.10.2015 @ 3:24pm
Oh, and XXXX being already a thing (a strong mild beer) you could stick to your naming and make a Mild Hammer.
James O 22.10.2015 @ 2:00pm
Another vote for keeping Libertine, it's your only regular strength dark beer....
Rosemary 22.10.2015 @ 12:40pm
Loving Lizard Bride have you thought of a raspberry based brew there are the finest Scottish raspberries up you way ;-)
Rosemary 22.10.2015 @ 12:35pm

Adam 22.10.2015 @ 10:47am
"Keep the hop series as a release of 4 at the same time. One of the few times I do a true side by beer tasting."

+

"the best thing about IPA is dead was being able to mix them together to make your own combinations."

+1 on both of these points. The most enjoyable aspect of the IPA Is Dead range by far was the ability to do a little mini tasting of my own, even if it's spread out over 4 nights at least I can do some kind of comparison. The 4 pack was also a catalyst for me actually spending some money in your online shop too, and I bet it's the same for a lot of others.

Also you guys need to keep Libertine as it's very popular, plus Clown King was a personal favourite.

Glad to see the Paradox brews will continue, the Isle of Arran one was one of my favourite beers ever.

One point though, I can't help but think that the subtle move towards lower ABV beers is an attempt to reduce your grain bill for profit reasons.
amo 22.10.2015 @ 10:24am
I hope you change your mind about the Ace of Hops series and release them as a batch.

It was a wonderful way to learn about hops without having to become a brewer. I think the idea of showcasing hops is a great one but being able to compare the beers together is what made it a worthwhile exercise in my opinion.

That way you really can pick up on the differences between each hop variety and learn how it affects each beer.

Spacing them out makes that harder to do and it becomes less of an exercise in showcasing hops and more (just) another line of beers?
Eliot 22.10.2015 @ 10:21am
Libertine is a must, excellent black hoppy ale, it was really what turned me to the Dogs
Monika 22.10.2015 @ 8:54am
I must have Jet Black Heart! Chili Jack Hammer sounds pretty cool too. But please, please, please don't drop Dogma!
Kyle 22.10.2015 @ 8:32am
bourbon baby please don't go!

Lizard bride is awesome and needs to be a regular. I think there's definitely a gap in the range for a sour play.

Interesting to see what happens to nanny state. In my opinion this is brewdog's only poor performer. Doesn't rank well alongside other no-alcs like mikkeller's drinkin in the sun
battlegarden 22.10.2015 @ 8:23am
You cannot stop making libertine!! Please!!
TheBBG 22.10.2015 @ 8:05am
Definitely think Libertine should be a regular - it's the standard against which I measure black IPAs (and most don't measure up!).

Good to see sense prevail and the return of the word "Saint" in 5am Saint!

Hammer Heads sounds intriguing - but definitely glad to see the original is still a regular in the Amplified series.
Malcolm 21.10.2015 @ 11:25pm
Banana Hammer sounds awesome
More Libertine please
Denis 21.10.2015 @ 10:05pm
+1 for Libertine
Rob 21.10.2015 @ 8:42pm
Didn't expect to see such a big update. So much to be excited about.
Catt231 21.10.2015 @ 8:17pm
Banana Hammer!
Thor's Hammer, Triple IPA
Lloydy 21.10.2015 @ 7:42pm
Please let's have some more "Bourbon Baby" it's one of my favourite Brewdog beers.
Richard Purchon 21.10.2015 @ 6:04pm
My home brew, Harvest Hammer of Thor it's a Wet hop (from my garden. Unknown variety) IPA made with Belgium candi sugar and Duvell Yeast. Also with 100 Twinnings Earl Grey tea bags. It's ranges from 6-8% as I haven't quite sorted out the finer points but I recon you guys could Hammer it out! Tea He
Pat 21.10.2015 @ 5:47pm
Would it be feasible to make an alcohol-free stout or porter I wonder?
antonin c 21.10.2015 @ 4:29pm
I agree with above, we need a BIPA over 7% ! Libertine or a new one, but we need it !
And also a stout in the core range too please...

XX Hammer = jack hammer with twice more hops ! :)
I hope we will also see one (or more) variants of the Black Eyed King Imp... Milk stout version, double cocoa and no coffee version, chili version... Possibilities are endless !
Alan E 21.10.2015 @ 4:00pm
... how anout Habanero Hammer instead of Scotch Bonnet Hammer... a fruitier tropical chilli and doesn't Habanero Hammer sound amaxing? (great idea whatever)

Habanero
Alan E 21.10.2015 @ 3:57pm
All looks pretty excellent, but I would love to see CLOWN KING added to Amplified . That was such an awesome beer :)
BrewDog Rich 21.10.2015 @ 3:57pm
Lots of fantastic x Hammer suggestions coming in! Great stuff

Ritchie - We have an Abstrakt blog in the pipeline, don't worry :)
Matt 21.10.2015 @ 3:48pm
How about Der Hammer? A hopped up Pilsner or hefeweizen?

Or Thor's Hammer? A nordic IPA?
Hystrix 21.10.2015 @ 2:56pm
Keep the hop series as a release of 4 at the same time. One of the few times I do a true side by beer tasting.
Heather 21.10.2015 @ 2:46pm
Libertine is a must

Grapefruit Hammer

also where is Zeitgeist??
Mike 21.10.2015 @ 2:20pm
Would certainly miss Dogma, but Libertine is an ESSENTIAL!
Jon 21.10.2015 @ 2:07pm
And there was me thinking Elvis Juice was made out of cheeseburgers.
Peter C 21.10.2015 @ 1:38pm
How a out hops kill? As the tbd seasonal? Was an absolute beast
Ritchie 21.10.2015 @ 1:19pm
Any Abstrakt plans?
Steven 21.10.2015 @ 1:16pm
Double, Triple, or Grapefruit 'Hammer'. DO IT!
Gareth 21.10.2015 @ 1:13pm
All sounds cool! It's very hard to get the balance right, and more regular new beers almost always results in dropping some old ones, and I guess the sales volumes play a role in deciding what goes & what stays.

It seems like over the last year the Prototype & Small Batch classifications have become more clearly defined in terms of how they are used (as opposed to everything 'new' being lumped in with small batch previously), and so the Tuned category makes sense as a place for regular beers that don't fit elsewhere. Might this be a place for the occasional brew of Dogma, Libertine, Zeitgeist etc to make an appearance (without the expectation of being permanently available)?
Paul 21.10.2015 @ 12:59pm
Libertine is one of my favorites, and should stay also be sorry to see Dogma and Alice Porter go.

I think there is a gap in the headliner range for a stout, what happened to Stereo Wolf?

A lot of exciting new beers though.
Steve Smith 21.10.2015 @ 12:57pm
Some exciting things to look forward to there, especially looking forward to the black IPA in the prototypes, and the XXX Hammer series. I'm a bit disappointed with the idea of splitting the "IPA is Dead" / "Ace of Hops" series through the year though. I enjoyed getting all four at once in the past - it's a good beery education for those of us who are not quite so expert.
Chris Airplays 21.10.2015 @ 12:57pm
the best thing about IPA is dead was being able to mix them together to make your own combinations. The lower abv might make this exercise a little less dangerous but will spreading them out throughout the year mean I won't be able to get all 4 at the same time?
Nicholas R 21.10.2015 @ 12:53pm
Nice to see that 5am has been knighted again :-)
Jackhammer variations sound awesome - how about a red version? or a rye version? or a NZ hopped version, or a blended yeast one (using all the yeast types combined), or.....

Can you make sure the jackhammer variations and prototypes come out at the same time so I can include them in one order please?
Pete H 21.10.2015 @ 12:30pm
Christmas has come early !
Hammer Heads. Elvis Juice 2.0. Bring it on !

If only you would revisit Restorative Beverage. Possibly my favourite Brewdog beer. Ever !
Steven R 21.10.2015 @ 12:30pm
Will you be making Bourbon Baby again?
Andy 21.10.2015 @ 12:25pm
Please tell me you're not dropping Libertine? I bloody *love* Libertine!
Thomas B @coughingdeath 21.10.2015 @ 12:24pm
How about a collaboration with a small town in Austria ... we could then have "Emsee Hammer".....

Also i see not disclosed in the ttext but in the picture that there will be a 'RYE HAMMER"...
BrewDog Rich 21.10.2015 @ 12:24pm
Lot of Libertine love out there - and we do have an opening for a Spring Seasonal, perhaps...
Eddie 21.10.2015 @ 12:18pm
Will Zeitgeist be making a re-appearance? That was one of my absolute favorite beers this year.
CLAIRE 21.10.2015 @ 12:15pm
What about Libertine?? Maybe as the other seasonal at least?
BeerDude 21.10.2015 @ 12:10pm
Elvis Juice for the win!
Grant 21.10.2015 @ 11:59am
What about Sledge Hammer? A double or Triple IPA?
Graeme 21.10.2015 @ 11:55am
2015 releases including Albino Squid Assassin? Not heard of this one - coming soon?
MARTI B 21.10.2015 @ 11:52am
Also sad for not seeing Dogma there , excelent beer!
Grapefruitsssssssssssss 21.10.2015 @ 11:49am
GRAPEFRUIT HAMMER OH MY GOD!!!!!!
Marc Roig 21.10.2015 @ 11:48am
Imperial Hammer with even more malts and more hops would be really ok :D
allanmb 21.10.2015 @ 11:47am
Very sad to see no Libertine too... although Black Jack could be good.
Hopmaestro 21.10.2015 @ 11:47am
XXX Hammer = Death Hammer or Witches Hammer, Hexen Hammer TRIPA, IPA3, Triple IPA.
Jack 21.10.2015 @ 11:41am
Fair enough. In that case I wonder if having 3/5 of the Amplified range as IPAs is overkill. Although there's no way I'd want to lose Jackhammer or Hardcore. This is the problem, the beers are so good, it's impossible to choose which to lose!
Dan 21.10.2015 @ 11:38am
Bring back Libertine, one of my favourites :(
Jamsie 21.10.2015 @ 11:35am
Jack D'Hammer - Jackhammer aged in Jack Daniels cask's ... Go on, you know you want to.
BrewDog Rich 21.10.2015 @ 11:33am
Jack/Greg - Nothing's set in stone yet, these are draft plans, remember :)
Jack 21.10.2015 @ 11:32am
Sad to see Dogma dropped!
Michael 21.10.2015 @ 11:23am
Elvis Juice could be a winner. Maybe you should can it as well?
Greg 21.10.2015 @ 11:21am
Pretty sad to see no Libertine on the list.
Daniel 21.10.2015 @ 11:17am
Bring back the old ogma!
Felix 21.10.2015 @ 11:16am
Hammer Heads. That will do nicely
