BREWDOG BEERS FOR 2016

Every year we make a few tweaks to our beery line-up as we look to fine tune our portfolio and also throw some awesome new small batch brews and collaborations into the mix.
2015 saw Born To Die unleashed on the world, Black Eyed King Imp hit cans and our first ever seasonal program launched with Alice Porter, Electric India, Hop Fiction and Candy Kaiser all going down a storm.
We are currently working on a few prototypes as well as dialling in a few really exciting new beers to launch in 2016. Here are some of the things we are currently working on:
Jet Black Heart
Our brewing team and our bars team have been working on this concept for a few months now. Jet Black Heart is a 5.1% milk stout, loaded with oatmeal for an extra lush mouth-feel and nitro dispensed on draft; expect decadent cacao, subtle roastiness, and autumnal fruitiness with a dark seductive edge. Inspired by some of the awesome craft nitro stouts we tried in the US we wanted to put our own spin on the style and also introduce nitro beers to BrewDog bars.
Elvis Juice 2.0
IPAs are loaded with deliciously citrusy flavours, adding citrus fruit to IPAs can make these citrus notes even more pronounced and encapsulating. Since launching the prototype Elvis Juice earlier this year we have been playing around with loads of other citrus IPAs on our pilot plant. We loved our Elvis Juice prototype but we added so much fruit juice we really lowered the pH of the beer giving it a sour edge, which was cool, but not quite what we were looking for.
Since then we have been experimenting with adding peel, less juice and also working to develop a way to extract huge grapefruit flavour without radically altering the beer’s pH. A 6.5% brand new Elvis Juice will be the result and will look to launch in January as part of our year round amplified series.
The 2015 Prototype Challenge
As always, we will be launching our 2015 prototypes in late November/early December. This year the 4 will be:
· Milk & Oatmeal Stout – discussed above
· India Session Pale Lager – once you think about this, it kinda makes sense. We promise.
· A Hoppy Brown Ale – maximum hops and maximum malt in a traditionally pedestrian style.
· Mid Strength Black IPA – a 5.2% hopped up black beast of a beer.
Hammer Heads
Jack Hammer has been a revelation for us since we launched it after it stormed to success in our 2013 prototype challenge. This year we will release a few small batch spins on our West Coast IPA. These will include:
Monk Hammer: Jack Hammer fermented with Belgian Yeast
Black Hammer: Black IPA version of Jack Hammer
Scotch Bonnet Hammer: Chilli-infused Jack Hammer
Brett Hammer: Brettanomyces-fermented Jack Hammer
XXXX Hammer: Your suggestions appreciated!
The Hammer Head beers will be one off releases and will be in cans.
Ace of Hops
Ace of Simcoe/Ace of Nelson/Ace of Mosaic etc. For 2016 we are intending tweaking the IPA is Dead series and re-launching it as the Ace of Hops series. These will be four single hopped session IPAs at 4.5% released over the course of the year. We feel the session IPA strength will be a great base to really showcase the hops and think that it will be better to release them over the course of 2016 than altogether.
Collaborations
We currently have collaborations with both Deschutes (an imperial porter) and Ballast Point (Mezcal-inspired strong ale) aging in oak. We also have the amazing J Wakefield over in January to help us put a Scottish twist on a Florida Berliner Weisse. We are also planning a suitably epic coffee and tobacco-inspired beer with our friends at Beavertown too. Plus loads more!
Small Batch
Small batch is dedicated to one off eclectic brews where we commission an amazing artist to produce a custom piece of artwork for the packaging. 2015 small batch highlights included Hinterland, an imperial milk, chocolate, coffee and vanilla stout with a label by Johanna Basford and Albino Squid Assassin with the can designed by Joe Wilson. 2016 small batch beers will include Self Assembly Pope and Neon Overlord. The details on the beers are still top secret (for now) but the Self Assembly Pope label was designed by Florian Schommer and will look something like the above!
Lager
This. Is. Lager. is currently undergoing a gentle revolution. We are experimenting with different malts and different yeast strains to help us make the beer even better. We are also playing with increasing the hop character and adding a noble dry hop. Once the fine tuning has been completed we will re-launch our lager as Kingpin.
We will of course also launch a few Born To Die & Paradox releases over the course of 2016 too!
Here is a little look at our proposed 2016 Range:
Headliners:
Punk IPA
Dead Pony Club
5am Saint
Kingpin – our newly revamped lager
Plus the winner of our 2015 prototype challenge
Tuned:

Yak Hammer: A hopped-up milk IPA made with yak’s milk
• Elvis Juice made permanent – This was my favourite prototype of 2015.
• Ballast Point collab – I discovered BP this year at the AGM. Love their stuff.
• Mid-level black IPA – My most-loved beer style, but I wasn’t a fan of Libertine.
• Black IPA version of Jack Hammer – So excited I think a bit of wee just came out!

Lot of love for Libertine, but frankly Zeitgeist is far superior. More of it please.
- HEADLESS HORSEMAN
- I WANNA B YOUR (BREWDOG)
- GÖTTER ALE
- ONSLOW TV IPA
CHEERS FELLAZ !!!
Lizard Bride definitely needs to be regular. Thought there would be some sours in there too?

"the best thing about IPA is dead was being able to mix them together to make your own combinations."
+1 on both of these points. The most enjoyable aspect of the IPA Is Dead range by far was the ability to do a little mini tasting of my own, even if it's spread out over 4 nights at least I can do some kind of comparison. The 4 pack was also a catalyst for me actually spending some money in your online shop too, and I bet it's the same for a lot of others.
Also you guys need to keep Libertine as it's very popular, plus Clown King was a personal favourite.
Glad to see the Paradox brews will continue, the Isle of Arran one was one of my favourite beers ever.
One point though, I can't help but think that the subtle move towards lower ABV beers is an attempt to reduce your grain bill for profit reasons.
It was a wonderful way to learn about hops without having to become a brewer. I think the idea of showcasing hops is a great one but being able to compare the beers together is what made it a worthwhile exercise in my opinion.
That way you really can pick up on the differences between each hop variety and learn how it affects each beer.
Spacing them out makes that harder to do and it becomes less of an exercise in showcasing hops and more (just) another line of beers?
Lizard bride is awesome and needs to be a regular. I think there's definitely a gap in the range for a sour play.
Interesting to see what happens to nanny state. In my opinion this is brewdog's only poor performer. Doesn't rank well alongside other no-alcs like mikkeller's drinkin in the sun
Good to see sense prevail and the return of the word "Saint" in 5am Saint!
Hammer Heads sounds intriguing - but definitely glad to see the original is still a regular in the Amplified series.
More Libertine please
Thor's Hammer, Triple IPA
And also a stout in the core range too please...
XX Hammer = jack hammer with twice more hops ! :)
I hope we will also see one (or more) variants of the Black Eyed King Imp... Milk stout version, double cocoa and no coffee version, chili version... Possibilities are endless !
Habanero
Ritchie - We have an Abstrakt blog in the pipeline, don't worry :)
Or Thor's Hammer? A nordic IPA?
Grapefruit Hammer
also where is Zeitgeist??
It seems like over the last year the Prototype & Small Batch classifications have become more clearly defined in terms of how they are used (as opposed to everything 'new' being lumped in with small batch previously), and so the Tuned category makes sense as a place for regular beers that don't fit elsewhere. Might this be a place for the occasional brew of Dogma, Libertine, Zeitgeist etc to make an appearance (without the expectation of being permanently available)?
I think there is a gap in the headliner range for a stout, what happened to Stereo Wolf?
A lot of exciting new beers though.
Jackhammer variations sound awesome - how about a red version? or a rye version? or a NZ hopped version, or a blended yeast one (using all the yeast types combined), or.....
Can you make sure the jackhammer variations and prototypes come out at the same time so I can include them in one order please?
Hammer Heads. Elvis Juice 2.0. Bring it on !
If only you would revisit Restorative Beverage. Possibly my favourite Brewdog beer. Ever !
Also i see not disclosed in the ttext but in the picture that there will be a 'RYE HAMMER"...
