Having skilled and knowledgeable employees directly benefits our customers – we literally cannot spread the word about amazing craft beer without our crewmembers knowing their stuff. That’s why it’s so important to us that every single one of our staff passes the Cicerone® Certified Beer Server exam (a mark we reached last December). But we want to use our knowledge base in another way. We want to pay it forward.

Equity Punks, if you would like to sit the Cicerone Certified Beer Server exam, we can help.

We have applied your Equity Punk discount to the cost of sitting the exam, and are kick-starting a challenge to support 1,000 Equity Punks to become Cicerone Certified Beer Servers. Once redeemed in our shop we will dispatch a code that gives you two attempts at the 60-question multiple choice exam, which is sat online at the Cicerone website.

Any Equity Punk who signs up and wants to take on the exam can find our BrewDog crew-level training materials online, available in documents section of your BrewDog.com account. The CBS exam covers beer service, styles and flavours and if there are any facets you aren’t sure about then you can also head to the Equity Punk forum or your local BrewDog bar and ask.

We know that you guys love craft beer in all its forms every bit as much as we do, which is why we have teamed up with the creators of the Cicerone programme to offer our shareholders a chance to sit the exam at a reduced rate (the exam will cost our Equity Punks £49 before EFP discount, which gives two attempts in case the first doesn’t go so well).

If we achieve this latest challenge then the 1,000 extra beer experts out there would more than double the existing number of Cicerone Certified Beer Servers in the UK. In turn that would mean many hundreds more men and women speaking the same language about craft beer and giving others a chance to discover it for themselves. With that in mind, any Equity Punk who passes their CBS will have the chance to represent BrewDog at festivals and events!

Keep an eye out for further announcements on that in the near future – and for those studying and wanting to bone up on specific beers we are soon going to introduce specific Cicerone-cases into our online shop. They will give you the easiest way to get your hands on the styles you need to concentrate on to give you the best chance of passing the exam.

But our biggest piece of advice? Don’t sweat it. We love our Equity Punks because you guys truly love beer. You love finding out new beers and sampling new styles, and are regulars at craft beer bars. With a background in beer like that, you’re most of the way there already and we can help you get over the line and become official – a Cicerone Certified Beer Server.
